Privacy

Late Night Spot is an independent directory for late-night cafes, kava bars, alcohol-free spaces, and community events. This notice covers the information submitted through our community-interest form, basic website analytics and saved shortlists.

Website analytics

Our first-party analytics record page paths without query strings or fragments, referring website hostnames, campaign source tags, a broad device category and a temporary random browser-tab session identifier. The identifier expires after 30 minutes without a recorded pageview or action. If browser storage is unavailable, a temporary identifier lasts only on the current page.

We record whether a page remains visible for at least 30 cumulative seconds and count actions such as saving a cafe, keeping or copying a shortlist, or opening a venue map or business website. Hidden-tab time does not count. This measurement does not establish what you read or how much attention you give a page.

These analytics do not store IP addresses or user-agent strings in our analytics database, record keystrokes, replay browsing sessions, or collect the contents of your shortlist or selected visit time. Our first-party script honors the browser's Do Not Track setting. Aggregate counts appear on our public analytics page; individual session identifiers are not included in that report.

For nearby searches, we count whether the search was manually requested or automatically reused a saved location or existing permission, whether it returned nearby listings or encountered an error, and whether a result led to a venue page, map or business website. A random search identifier connects these steps within the temporary browser-tab session. Reports group searches by the nearest covered venue’s city within 50 miles, inferred in your browser, or “unknown.” Search analytics do not receive your coordinates, ZIP/postal code, or freeform location label. ZIP lookup itself is sent to OpenStreetMap’s geocoding service to find results; your selected location remains in this browser’s session storage.

Optional venue feedback

If you answer a venue question, we store your yes/no response, the listing page, time and temporary browser-tab session identifier. Questions cover whether you visited, whether the listed hours matched, and suitability for studying. We use aggregate answers to prioritize research; they do not automatically change a listing. Per-listing answer counts appear on the public analytics page, without session identifiers. This feature also honors Do Not Track.

We measure the path from browsing to a venue page to opening a map or business website within a temporary session. Clicks do not prove an in-person visit. We do not use a persistent identifier to track you across days.

Saved shortlists

The Portland planner saves your cafe choices in this browser's local storage when you choose to save them. You can remove picks in the planner or clear browser storage. A copied shortlist link contains the selected cafes, day and time, which are visible to anyone you send the link to. They are not sent in our analytics events.

Community notes

If you send feedback or suggest a place, we store your note, the page path and submission time in Cloudflare. No email or account is required. Notes are reviewed privately to improve the directory and are not published in our analytics reports. Please avoid including sensitive personal information.

Community-interest submissions

When you submit the form, we collect your email address, the role and location you choose, your optional note, the page where you submitted the form, and basic campaign parameters such as UTM tags. Signing up for local updates records your consent to occasional emails when a new late-night spot comes online. On a city or business page, the form includes that city and you can change it before submitting. We do not intentionally store your precise GPS location with this form.

How we use it

We use submissions to understand which cities, venues, and community needs to research next; respond to owner or organizer interest; improve the directory; and, only when you opt in, prepare occasional Late Night Spot updates. We do not sell submitted email addresses.

Service providers

Cloudflare hosts and protects the website. Supabase stores private submissions. If we begin sending confirmation or update emails, an email delivery provider such as Resend may process the address for that purpose.

Choices and retention

Email updates will include an unsubscribe method. Unsubscribing will not be reversed by submitting the interest form again. We keep community signals only as long as they remain useful and delete or de-identify stale unconfirmed records as part of routine maintenance.

Questions or deletion requests

Use Contact us or request data deletion with the same email address and describe your request. This does not sign you up for updates. We will verify requests before changing or deleting a record.

This notice will be updated before user accounts, venue claims, payments, or precise-location features are introduced.
